Beware Of The Capricorn

Capricorn season has officially open, with a soundtrack to go with it. New Cupid brand new album "Capricorn" is a masterpiece. Thirteen cuts of pure Swingout Soul, this is by far one of the best albums to drop under the hot new genre.

The last year, The Dance Party King has been busy world tours, partnering with retails giant Walmart, creating the Wal-Mart Shuffle. Capricorn took a careful two years for Cupid and longtime producer Mr. Phat to make. Releasing several hit singles off the album throughout the years. Cupid features collaborations with some unique artist. ZRO, Stevie B, Partners In Crime, Pokey Bear, Jeter Jones, Donald Bolden Jr, and J-Wonn. He also has a song with the Father of Swingout Soul himself Roi Chip Anthony titled " Spoil You"  is blazing on radio and clubs across the nation. My personal favorite jam is "What's Your Flava" and if you must know mine is CARAMEL (lol).

The Emergence Of Swingout Soul

There’s a new sound bubbling across America and people just can't get enough. Written with the heart and soul of R&B, smoother than Southern Soul or Blues, a hybrid sound they are calling “ Swingout Soul”. I first got introduced to the world of Swingout a few years ago while visiting Louisiana. If you aren’t familiar with Swingout dancing, it's  a coupled dance similar to Chicago 2 Steppin but slower and smoother.

While in Louisiana, I purchased a CD by an artist name Lysa, who they were calling The Queen Of Swingout Soul. The CD was titled “Queen With A Woman's Touch” and you know I love me some Queens. It was such an uplifting CD, I just couldn't take it out of my deck, so I got curious about the production. I found out the whole album was produced by another artist by the name of Roi Chip Anthony. As I dug deeper, I found more and more songs from Roi Chip Anthony and his Mohitz family. He was the one driving this new sound that I love so much.

With new records on the way from the likes of Cupid of the “Cupid Shuffle”, his new album “Capricorn” promises to bring us an overdose of Swingout Soul and I can't wait. Word has it he and his long-term producer Mr. Phat have been working on the album for 2 years with hits like “Spoil You” and “What's Your Flava” already taking over the clubs and radio. Roi Chip Anthony also has an album on the way still untitled with double disc - one R&B, the other Southern Soul. Most notable right now is the very popular song “Gonna Do Me” which was on his last CD.  The upcoming CD has some powerhouses as well. “Going Back” featuring Tyree Neal, “Real”, and Swingout Gospel track ( yes I said that) “So Good” have already peaked as fan favorites. Many young singers are being heard through this new music genre.  This sound is being displayed on legendary artists like Keith Sweat's new album “Playing For Keeps” where eight out of thirteen songs were produced by Roi Chip Anthony.

Swingout Soul is a Smoove groove with lyrics about self-empowerment, good times, and celebration of love and life with a touch of Gospel. The time for good soulful music is upon us - it’s no longer the era  juke joint classics filled with the rhetoric of cheating spouses, no good mates, and meaningless sex, now is the era of soulful feel-good celebrations that you can groove to.

Kool Cuisine Dinner Party

While on my way to the Essence Festival in New Orleans this year, I promised myself when I finished my around the world in 80 days fabo trip I would write about an event experience I had in Lake Charles, Louisiana. One of my girlfriend’s cousins live there and took us to an event called Kool Cuisine Dinner Party! So when we walk up I was like “so we just going to a restaurant” while outside, but once inside from my ears I knew my instinct was wrong altogether.  As I heard my favorite song - Ro James “Permission” bumping sexually across a deejay sound system I was like Ok Nah.  The room was soulfully decorated with tables and chairs dressed in black and silver linens, complete with candles and cutlery place settings.  The state of the art photo booth gave it the ambiance of a red carpet and by this time I was like Kool Cuisine Dinner “Party” dummy duh. Immediately after sitting, a handsome waiter took our order which we had a choice of - Grilled Pork Loin or Cajun Grilled Chicken Breast either with potatoes or rice pilaf, hot bread, with a vegetable medley. As we waited for our meal, which was
less than ten minutes, the Chef himself walked around with appetizers made with salmon and caviar for each guest to try! Now I have been a lot of places, done a whooooole lot of things, but never served these two things personally by the chef! F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S.   So I went with the Pork Lion which was seasoned like only Louisiana can, topped with some cinnamon baked apples. With all these blends of flavors, it was diabolical to my taste buds!

I had great laughs and good conservations with my friends, and I met some new friends sitting at our table as the Dj was grooving smooth R&B with a touch of Hip Hop blended with some of that juke joint ear candy you only hear south of the Mason Dixon.  As we completed our meals, we were offered dessert which was a choice of Raspberry Champagne Cake or a special German Chocolate Cake. The German Chocolate was so moist it’ll make my granny sit down! I flirted with the waiter long enough to get a second piece.  This was pretty much the highlight of my weekend, even over the celebrity infused events I attended throughout the weekend at Essence Festival in New Orleans.  Now the bar was a little tired with the lack of drink selections, but I was still able to get a Vodka and Cranberry so I bump them up to lazy. Even being VIP at most of the Essence Events, I still spent a pretty penny on food and service in New Orleans, but the greatest night - which was Kool Cuisine Dinner Party, only cost me 25 bucks. Go figure! The atmosphere of Kool Cuisine Dinner Party gives you what a modern day Cotton Club would be like, or even Ray’s Boom Boom Room if it was real.
